REFLOW – Co-creating circular and regenerative resource flows in cities

How can citizens, policy-makers and businesses co-design circular and regenerative cities?

Rapid urbanization and the simultaneous unsustainable consumption of resources accentuate the need to develop a new urban metabolic system.

REFLOW is an EU H2020 funded project, from 2019 to 2022, that seeks to understand and transform urban material flows and to co-create and test circular and regenerative solutions at business, governance and citizen levels.

In the project, the philosophy and approach of the maker movement are applied to the development of circular economy city models. The flows of materials through our cities and the way to get a grip on them, are crucial topics of the project. The aim is to create viable stategies and tools that can be used as a model to inspire and guide other urban areas in transitioning to circular and regenerative cities.

Pilots in six European cities

Six cities across Europe – Amsterdam, Paris, Berlin, Milan, Vejle and Cluj-Napoca – will test approaches to city circularity each focusing on a different resource flow. At the heart of these pilots is a productive ‘making’ approach that empowers citizens and engages policy-makers and industry leaders.

The role of P2P Lab in this project

P2P Lab is leading the working package on “Governance and Urban Strategies” which aims to study, analyse, co-design and evaluate governance models and strategies for the circular economy in urban contexts. REFLOW comprises a consortium of 27 partners.
